One Page Genealogy – Technology to Help Your Research
By Kenneth Green
On Family and Friends Friday I have told you that it would be a grab bag of things for the genealogy sphere. On today’s blog, I want to talk about a technology page that I have recently discovered. If you’ve seen my Tribal Tuesday series, you know how much I love Relative Finder which was created by BYU Family HIstory Labs. Today I want to talk about a different website they have made which I think can be of great help in analyzing family trees. This site is called One Page Genealogy.
What is One Page Genealogy?
One Page Genealogy is a website that utilizes either Gedcom files or FamilySearch accounts. I particularly am a huge fan of FamilySearch so with a simple login with my FS account I’m able to pull up beautiful charts. Now you’re probably wondering why I’m such a fan of One Page Genealogy Charts. Well, there are a few neat tips and tricks that I have found. The first one is the evaluation of your family tree which can show you holes and places that could use improvement.
One Chart Can Produce Amazing Charts
The thing about this website that also helps Genealogists or just the amateur family historians is the varied types of charts. I love this site that can show you a diverse amount of charts. I like this because I am a visual person and using this page enables me to see my genealogy in so many different ways. Below are a few of the various charts that I like to use to examine my family history.
This chart shows some details at a far off type of view. I like this because I can do a quick overview of my entire family tree. There are times that you want more details on your family and there are charts for that as well. I want to show you another chart that I have found to be useful to me in my family history research.
See Your Family History Vividly!
As a visual person, I like this graph because it shows things in bubbles. Family groups are given colors, and you can have colors be about generations, you can choose from pastels and more. I love using this feature of One Chart. We always see the same old boring family history charts on other websites. I love the fact that we can have a variety of charts with a level of customization like never before. As a genealogist, I take my hat off to BYU labs for making this possible. I’m also in love with the fact that this is provided free to the public. I applaud their dedication to the industry and hope you would check them out along with their other products that they offer free of cost. They are a non-profit entity, and I think one of the best in the genealogy field. So I encourage you to get your one-page chart today! You can save it to PDF format for easy sharing and can go back I believe eighteen generations! WOW! Thank you for your patronage and visiting Genealogy Gangster and I hope you have a terrific Family and Friends Friday!
